Getting
Certified as a Scuba Diver
Becoming
FULLY CERTIFIED is easy when you stay in our apartment. The class
sessions take place right in your apartment and the pool session
in the pool to the rear of the apartment. For a complete and safe
course the normal time is 4 days. Usually your class and pool sessions
are completed in the first 2 days and the check out dives on the
last 2 days. The clarity, calmness of the water and the privacy
of our pool creates an atmosphere that is beneficial to learning
new skills. The schedule is flexible according to weather.
| The pool is for the exclusive use of villa guests and only used for dive instruction of Villa guests at their request and by us as instructors. No one else. This ensures your privacy |
We
encourage students to obtain the PADI open water CD ROM or the manual
and complete the requested exercises.
This pool is made for diving. 40 feet long, and 10 feet deep at
the deep end gives lots of room and depth for training. There is
no confined water area in San Pedro that matches what we have here
in terms of size, depth, and most important, privacy. Most dive
shops do their training in the ocean, but surge and silt can make
it difficult.
PADI
Referral Program
Another
way to become certified is to use the PADI REFERRAL PROGRAM offered
by PADI. This means that you take your classroom and pool sessions
at a PADI dive shop near your home. Your PADI instructor will give
you a Referral form when you complete that part of the course. You
bring the form to us. From there we take over and continue your
training by taking you out on your 4 check-out dives. Many students
come to us this way. Only 2 half days are required for the dives
and the open water check out dives are conducted at the same locations
that the certified divers go to.
PADI
now also offers a SCUBA DIVER certification.
This
is a 2 1/2 day course that involves 1 pool session and the first
half of the academic part of the course. There is no exam, but this
limits you to diving to not more than 40 feet. This is great if
you do not have the time for the complete course. This certification
also allows you to complete the rest of the full certification course
at a later date.
Where
will your Open Water Dives Take Place
The first 2 dives are always done at sites that are located inside
the reef such as Hol Chan Marine Reserve or Mexico Rocks to get
you started. After that, weather permitting, we go outside the reef for dives that are a little deeper. You will always be under the
supervision of an instructor.
